Licensed Social Worker
Jewish Family Service (JFS) continues to serve Temple Emanu-El.
Together We Can, a Jewish community response to the current economic climate is the program developed by JFS with funding from the Jewish Federation of Central NJ. The project currently has a social worker and a career counselor on staff. They work out of the JFS offices in Elizabeth and Scotch Plains and can meet you throughout the week in either of these locations or at the Temple on Monday afternoons.
Since its inception in the spring of 2009 the program has served more than 150 individuals through groups, workshops, networking events and one-on-sessions.
Groups meet in the Elizabeth offices (655 Westfield Ave.) on Mondays from 10:00 AM to Noon and in Scotch Plains (2253 South Ave., Ste. 8) on Wednesdays from 9:30 to 11:30 AM.
Issues addressed in the group include:
· Resume review
· Interviewing techniques
· Understanding your unique strengths and weaknesses
· How to use LinkedIn in your job search,
· Networking
· Staying positive during your job search
· Using buddies to help keep yourself focused
· Learning techniques to structure your time
· Addressing family stress
· Creating a family budget
· Finding financial resources in the community
Monthly workshops meet on the first Wednesday of each month at the JCC of Central NJ (1391 Martine Ave., Scotch Plains) from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. Please contact the JFS office for the topic of the month.
