The Danis Family established the Eldernet Project to honor the memory their niece, Lauren, an extraordinary young woman, and to build on her legacy by helping the elderly in our community.
Meet the Eldernet Coordinator
Steve Wechselblatt, the Lauren Danis Eldernet Coordinator, has worked in public relations with major corporations and in development with not-for-profit organizations for over 20 years.
“I am delighted to assume this new role and hope that I can work effectively with the entire TempleEmmanuel community to enrich the lives of our seniors and assist members of our congregation concerned about the parents or other aging relatives. You’ll be hearing more about our programs in the weeks and months to come,” he said.
Most recently, Steve worked at the Jewish Federation of Central New Jersey. Prior to that he planned and implemented a strategic communications plan for NewYork-PresbyterianHospital’s record-breaking $1 billion capital campaign.
Steve also served for nine years as Vice President and Public Relations Director for Mitsubishi International Corporation, where he was responsible for issues management, crisis communications, media relations and philanthropy.
He and his wife, Marlene, live in Watchung, N.J.
About Lauren Danis
The Lauren Danis Eldernet Project is named in memory of Gary and Leslie Danis’ niece. When Lauren’s her parents, grandparents and numerous relatives moved down to Point East Miami, she went to Florida with them. Her family was close-knit and Lauren loved to help her relatives – and many of their neighbors – in all sorts of ways. She would drive those who needed rides or take them shopping when they could not drive themselves.
Lauren lived in Fort Lauderdale and her family worried about her. But she knew her family and their elderly neighbors needed her and wouldn’t leave. Fourteen years ago, at the age of 27, Lauren was murdered in the prime of her life.
Her life was a blessing and an inspiration to all who knew her. Gary and Leslie decided the best way to honor this extraordinary young woman would be to build on her legacy by helping the elderly here in our own community.
