Friday Evening Worship

Erev Shabbat Service is the cornerstone of worship at Temple Emanu-El. The service is a mix of traditional and new melodies and prayers, prayers for healing, and a sermon by one of our Rabbis. Many of the familiar "Shabbat prayers and melodies" are sung at this service.

Shabbat Hallelu Service (held the first Friday of the month) has garnered national acclaim for its spirited music, worship, and song. The service is led by our Cantor and lay musicians/prayer leaders and offers a mix of contemporary and traditional music. Attended by 300 people, it is not unusual for dancing to "break out" in the aisles during the service!

Zimrat Shabbat (held on the third Friday of the month) is a service with guitar and percussion which creates an easy listening and communal environment for prayer. It includes special readings, offering moments of self-reflection and personal prayer.

Family Shabbat Schedule

Shabbat Morning Worship

Main Sanctuary Service begins at 10:30 AM and usually includes a b'nai mizvah celebration. Led by Rabbi and Cantor, the service is a traditional Shabbat morning worship. Torah and Haftarah are chanted and the Rabbi leads a study session on the weekly Torah portion.

Simchat Shabbat Service is held twice per month and begins at 9:00 AM. This service combines contemporary and traditional music and prayer.

Shabbat Minyan is our entirely lay-led Shabbat worship service, which is held at 9:45 AM each Shabbat morning. This service combines traditional worship with study and discussion of the weekly portion and issues in Judaism. Newcomers are warmly welcomed.
