Our 6th Grade Nisayon (experience) program meets on Wednesday evenings, supplemented with meaningful Jewish experiences throughout the year, plus an optional weekly Hebrew Learning Lab.
The themes of Middot (Jewish Virtues and Ethics), Shoah (Holocaust Studies) and Comparative Religion frame a year of edutainment, with an emphasis on Klal Yisrael (Jewish peoplehood and Comparative Judaism) and Eretz Yisrael (the Land of Israel).
Wednesday Classes: Students meet every Wednesday from 5:45-7:45 PM for a pizza dinner, t’filah (prayer service), camp-style Jewish studies and Hebrew learning based on your child’s reading level.
Hebrew Learning Labs: An optional, 20-minute Hebrew lab has been created for children’s enrichment and support. These labs are available on a drop-in basis on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 4:00 – 5:45 PM. Reservations required.
Jewish Experiences: Our students have many unique Jewish experiences from which to choose. Some experiences take place at Temple Emanu-El, others take the learning outside of the classroom and beyond the walls of our synagogue. Families choose a minimum of six experiences to attend.
Retreat: 6th graders attend a two night retreat at Camp Harlam, which is focused on Mitzvot.
Youth Group: Extreme Bonim for 5th and 6th grade students
