Do 10 people on zoom count for a minyan? Does the Jewish tradition permit cremation? Why do we all stand for the Kaddish?
Join Rabbi Ethan Prosnit for a Lunch and Learn series in which we will discuss questions like these, and more. After the Talmudic period, questions, “she’e’lot” about Jewish law were asked of leading scholars around the diaspora. Those rabbis, experts in Jewish law, issued answers, knows as “teshuvot.” That has become a vast store of literature known as “She’e’lot u’tshuvot” – Questions and Answers, or, Responsa Literature. The Reform Movement has a long history of issuing responsa for contemporary questions. Reform congregations and rabbis make their own determinations about many of these questions, we will have the opportunity to delve into different questions and answers and we will offer our own responsa as well. Bring your lunch and we will provide drinks and dessert as we look into some of the pressing questions of our time. This class will be held in person with Zoom options available as well. Please register and let us know how you will be attending.
