6th Graders will learn about The American Jewish Immigration Story, Life Cycle events and dive into the Moving Traditions program B. Mitzvah. Students will learn about the Jewish immigration to America during the late 1800s and early 1900s from Eastern Europe that became the foundation of Jewish communities in NYC. Students explore birth to marriage to death as well as hear about different life cycle events with guest speakers. Lastly, they will talk about what it means to become a B’nai mitzvah and learn about what it means to become a young Jewish adult as they not only become older but also take on more responsibility and autonomy in their lives.

The schedule for a typical 7th Grade Nisayon night is as follows:

  • Dinner / Social Time

Starting in January, the Nisayon night will change from three periods to two with a break in between. 7th Grade students will have the opportunity to choose an elective for period one and attend Judaics in period two.

Hebrew

The 7th Grade Hebrew curriculum will focus on the B’nai Mitzvah service. Students will have the opportunity to learn, work on and master the prayers they will recite for their big day and beyond. For the Hebrew session, students will be placed by Hebrew reading level and may not be with a friend.

Once students have become a B’nai Mitzvah, they will have the awesome opportunity to participate in the Taste of Madrichim program with our 6th Grade Hebrew learners.

Judaics

7th Grader students will learn from an award-winning curriculum called Facing History and Ourselves that focuses on anti-Semitism/Holocaust in our daily lives and Israel. Students will also learn about the Holocaust and how the lessons that we can learn from it echo beyond history and into our lives today. They will then explore the Jewish connection to Israel, its culture, history, and complexity.

Students will have an opportunity to be with friends during dinner, T’filah and Judaics. For the Hebrew session, students will be placed by reading level and may not be with a friend.
