Elul Moments with the TEE Clergy
As we begin the Hebrew month of Elul, we use this month for preparations for the High Holy Days. Each week members of our clergy team will be sharing a short reflection on one of the prayers found in our machzor, our High Holy Day prayer book. We hope these videos will help you find a spiritual mindset for the Days of Awe and provide extra meaning during this sacred time. Check out our social media accounts on Tuesdays and Fridays throughout Elul and our HHD portal for these teachings.

Book of Remembrance
“Originally, Yizkor was recited only on Yom Kippur. Its primary purpose was to honor the deceased by committing to giving tzedakah [charity] in their memory, on the theory that the good deeds of the survivors elevate the souls of the departed. It also enhanced the chances for personal atonement by doing a deed of lovingkindness.” – My Jewish Learning
Temple Emanu-El publishes a Yom Kippur Book of Remembrance that contains the names of beloved departed members of our families whose memories we cherish and wish to honor at this sacred time.
When we rise to recite the Kaddish during our Yom Kippur services, or when you light a memorial candle in their memory on Erev Yom Kippur at home, we will be strengthened as a community, as one congregational family.
May we recall our loved ones’ teachings and their examples which guide us even though they are not physically with us. May their memory be a blessing!
